The organization’s main goals, which embody its core values, are the following:
-to expose and educate youth and adults of Arab and non-Arab heritage to the diversity of Arab culture and other cultural traditions
-to support the development of youth leadership by empowering them with a deeper knowledge of their cultural heritage and history, creating opportunities for greater academic achievement and civic engagement.
-to create a welcoming and inclusive space in West Philadelphia that serves as an administrative and programming space for Al-Bustan and engages with community members in Philadelphia and beyond
BKS Iyenager Yoga School

Joan began her yoga training in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1968. In a1972 horseback riding accident she broke her back and sustained other serious spinal injuries. She suffered from temporary paralysis and slowly began to recover do some yoga poses.

The agency employs nearly 100 staff to serve its community and constituents through social services, counseling, case management, commercial corridor revitalization, community organizing, and quality affordable rental housing.
